About

Hello. I am Pavels.

I run Pavels Tech Heaven from Inverkeithing, working with small businesses across Fife and Edinburgh on the technology side of what they do.

When you contact Pavels Tech Heaven, you deal directly with Pavels. Not a call centre, not a different person each time, and not someone reading from a script.

Background

Where this came from.

I studied cyber security and digital forensics to degree level, and I hold a couple of security certifications alongside it. That is where the protection side of the business comes from. The rest grew out of the same handful of questions small business owners kept asking me.

  • Bachelor in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics Degree
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) Certification

Worth saying what these do not mean: I do not offer penetration testing, certification or compliance auditing, and holding a security certificate does not change that. What they mean is that the protection work is done by someone who has studied the subject properly.

Their website was old, or there was not one. Something had stopped working and they had nobody to ring. They had no idea whether anything was backed up. Their competitor down the road had two hundred Google reviews and they had twelve.

None of that needs a big consultancy. It needs somebody local who will look at it, tell you what is worth doing, and then actually do it.

How I work

Four things I hold to.

  1. A price before the work

You know what something costs before it starts, in writing. If a job turns out to need more than we agreed, we talk about it before it happens rather than after.

  2. Plain English, always

If I have explained something and you are none the wiser, that is on me. Ask again. There is no such thing as a daft question about your own business.

  3. I will tell you not to bother

Sometimes the honest answer is that a thing is not worth doing, or that I am not the right person for it. Saying so costs me a job and keeps me useful.

  4. The same person, every time

No account manager, no ticket queue, no starting again with someone who has never seen your setup.

Who I work with

Small businesses, owner-operators and small teams in Fife and Edinburgh that want straightforward technology help without an in-house technology function. If you need round-the-clock cover or a full managed IT department, I'm not the right fit, and I'll tell you so.

Limits

What I do not do.

Being clear about this saves everyone time, and it is the part most suppliers leave out.

  • Round-the-clock or emergency cover
  • A full managed IT department
  • Structured cabling or managed networks
  • Search engine optimisation retainers
  • Social media management

Where a job needs one of those, I will say so and point you at someone who does it properly.

Based in Fife

Local is the whole point.

Being twenty minutes away matters more than it sounds. It means I can come out, it means I know the towns your customers come from, and it means you are not explaining your business to somebody in another city.
